The Narew is the fifth longest Polish river, a right tributary of the Vistula. It is one of Europe's few braided rivers. The Narew has its sources in western Belarus and flows through north-eastern Poland, joining the Vistula 30 kilometres north-west from Warsaw. The name Narew comes from a Proto-Indo-European root *nr primarily associated with water.
