Geocache Description:

This series is designed to encourage local or visiting cachers to explore and discover the mighty and fascinating fortification remains that are dotted around Alderney’s majestic coastline.

Any exploration should be done with great caution. That said, these cache locations are by no means outrageous: The Vlads have been frequenting these spots for years with very little trouble.

Fortification Series – Fort Tourgis

Fort Tourgis is a huge fortification, constructed in 1855 to defend the breakwater as it was being built.  It stands on a rock known as Rocque Tourgis on the sharp corner between Clonque and Platte Saline.  An enormous amount of stone was used in the construction of this fort which was brought to the site by train or horse drawn carts. Fort Tourgis could house a large number of troops due to its size, as well as featuring sixteen guns. Like many forts on the island, it was adapted by the Nazi forces as part of The Atlantic Wall. Fort Tourgis offers fantastic views of Fort Clonque, the hazardous Swinge and the islands of Burhou, Ortac and Casquets.

The cache itself is a small container situated outside of the main fort. Please bring a pen.
