You can see a stone monument that says "kesho-no-Mizu" on the corner of the intersection of Shijo Nishinotoin. This is where there was a villa of Ono no Komachi. Komachi was a Japanese waka poet, one of the Rokkasen—the Six best Waka poets of the early Heian period. She was renowned for her unusual beauty, and Komachi is today a synonym for feminine beauty in Japan. Unfortunately, there is no well in there now.

四条西洞院の東南の角に「化粧水（けしょうのみず）」という小さな石碑があります。ここは小野小町の別荘があったとされる場所。邸内にあった井戸水を小町が使ったことにちなんで化粧水と名付けられたそうです。小野小町は平安時代前期の歌人で六歌仙、三十六歌仙、女房三十六歌仙の一人。絶世の美女とされています。残念ながら、今は井戸も水もありません。
