The McRaes Weir Circuit Track is a 2 – 2 ½ hour return track, the track is classified as hard but that seems a bit extreme, medium would be more appropriate. Follow the red weir symbol on the track signs. Follow the road to the swing bridge and then continue up the Racemans Track to the McRaes Weir Track. Then travel beside the water-race and pipeline to the McRaes Stream and weir. Cross over this stream, pass an old hut, a tunnel and continue beside the water-race to a sign that takes you back to the swing bridge.
The main Scout Award Scheme is in six parts: Scout Badge, Bronze Scout Award, Silver Scout Award, Gold Scout Award, Chief Scout Award and The Venturer Badge. There are also a wide range of Personal Challenge Badges which may be completed as part of the main awards. There are over 50 Personal Challenge Badges to choose from including Aircraft Spotting.
A part of the Aircraft Spotting PB Challenge is to record a log of aircraft seen, including identification features, and approximate height and heading over a period of at least one month. This spot appears to be right under the flight path for the Dunedin airport, we saw four planes fly overhead so it would appear to be a good place for spotting aircraft.
The cache is a dark green painted sistema container hidden just off the track at ground level. Accuracy is within +/- 5 meters due to the tree coverage.
