The Lebanon Civil War Park depicts Major Gen. George H. Thomas, the “Rock of Chickamauga,” who led Union forces from Lebanon to Mill Springs in January 1862 for the first major Civil War battle in Kentucky. Just north of this location can be found Myrtledene, used by Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan as his headquarters in 1862. The home, which was built in 1833, is now a bed a breakfast. Lebanon is the county seat of Marion County, Kentucky. Lebanon was the site of three Civil War battles—1861, 1862 and 1863. The city holds within its bounds many historical sites, including Myrtledene, Sunnyside, the Union Commissary, Lebanon National Cemetery, the Maxwell House, and more. Information regarding a self-guided tour is available from the Chamber of Commerce. Also found in town is the Kentucky Cooperage, one of the largest bourbon barrel-making factories in the world; and two distilleries, Limestone Branch and Maker’s Mark.
