De reeks BB4 – WO1 – … neemt jullie mee naar het Brugge tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Aan de hand van foto's krijgen jullie een beeld van de verwoesting. De opgegeven coördinaten plaatsen jullie op de (vermoedelijke) plaats waar de foto werd genomen. Het biedt jullie eveneens de mogelijkheid om de foto's te vergelijken met het heden.

The series BB4 - WW1 - ... takes you back to the Bruges during the First World War.
On the basis of photographs you get a picture of the devastation. Coordinates places you at the (presumed) location where the photo was taken. It also offers you the opportunity to compare the present with the pictures.

1918. Bijna alle bruggen rondom de Brugse binnenstad werden vernield of zwaar beschadigd...
1918. Almost all the bridges around the city of Bruges were destroyed or severely damaged.

KRUISPOORTBRUG

De Kruispoortbrug werd bijna volledig verwoest. Enkel voetgangers konden de brug nog oversteken.
The Kruispoort Bridge was almost completely destroyed. Only pedestrians could still cross the bridge.

GENTPOORTBRUG

De Gentpoortbrug werd tijdens WO1 volledig vernield. Het huisje van de bruggedraaier staat nog overeind...
The Gentpoort bridge was completely destroyed during WW1. The cottage of the bridge shifter is still standing ...

PICKERYBRUG

De Pickerybrug was een ijzeren voetgangersbrug die diende als passerelle voor de arbeiders van La Brugeoise. Deze brug werd na de oorlog niet herbouwd.
The Pickerybrug was an iron pedestrian bridge that served as a passageway for the workers of La Brugeoise. This bridge was not rebuilt after the war.

SPOORWEGBRUG

Ook deze spoorwegbrug werd tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog zwaar beschadigd.
Also this railroad bridge was heavily damaged during the First World War.

SCHEEPSDALEBRUG

De Scheepsdalebrug werd volledig vernietigd.
The Scheepsdale Bridge was completely destroyed.

WARANDEBRUG

De Warandebrug werd tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog opgeblazen. De Warandebrug was een spoorwegbrug voor de lijn Brugge-Blankenberge.
De stapelhuizen op de achtergrond op deze foto hebben plaats gemaakt voor de brandweerkazerne. De schoorsteen die we kunnen zien, is deze van de gistfabriek.
The Warandebrug was blown up during the First World War. The Warandebrug was a railway bridge on the line Bruges, Blankenberge.
The stack houses in the background in this picture have been replaced by the firehouse. The chimney that we can see, is from the yeast factory.

SINT-LEONARDUSBRUG

De vernielde Sint-Leonardusbrug.
