Geocache Description:

This is one of ten caches placed for the 2014 Cache Across Maryland. Each location was picked specifically to give cachers a taste of the state and show you its beauty. By combining all ten, you'll be able to see why Maryland is truly "America in Miniature". We hope you enjoy them!

Sitting on the Montgomery and Prince George’s County line, Fairland Regional Park is the only bi-county park owned by the M-NCPPC. Of the 322 acres on the Montgomery side, only 39 acres are developed because the area is environmentally sensitive. The Prince George's side of the park is more than 150 acres and houses The Gardens Ice House and a stormwater management demonstration project area.

Geographically situated in both the Coastal Plain and Piedmont, Fairland's over 5 miles of trails will give visitors a diverse view of the region. The park’s trails transition from flat coastal plains in the southeast to the rolling hills of the Piedmont in the northern section of the park. The vegetation and wildlife will vary from our other parks due to its unique location.

Fairland’s trails are "shared by all" trails which includes hikers, bikers, and equestrians so please be aware of your surroundings as you enjoy the park. Near the parking area, there are playgrounds for the little ones to enjoy.

Your journey will lead you to a traditional cache, a standard sized ammo can, hidden in a traditional manner. From the parking lot, N 39° 05.305 W 076° 55.715, proceed to the Green Castle Trail (paved).

Follow this trail for 240’ until you find the trailhead marker for the Crow’s Foot Trail (Dirt/rock). Enter the wood line here and follow until you get to another junction/trail marker. Turn left and follow the Holly trail you are about 300’ from GZ. From here, walk up the slope to GZ. The underbrush is minimal, at best, and the ground is solid.

The hide is within Fairland Regional Park, so NO night caching please!
