Barefoot on the Bearfoot Traditional Cache

With a name like “The Bearfoot Trail,” how could we resist calling our first cache along this trail “Barefoot on the Bearfoot”?   Although we don’t recommend trekking barefoot, we are impressed by this well-built, well-graded, and user-friendly trail. 

The trail begins off Highway 87 between Pine and Strawberry, heads southeast, then swings back to the northeast.   At its northern end, it connects with the Pine Canyon trail #26 to continue on up the Rim.  Or turn south and follow Trail #26 to the Pine Trailhead at the south end of Pine.  Please do not trespass on the private property of Camp Lo Mia.  

Limited parking is available at the Rock Wall Trail #608 at mile post 270 on the east side of Hwy 87.  (N 34 24.377  W 111 28.931) From the parking waypoint follow the power pole road southeast to the start of the Barefoot Trail at this waypoint N 34 24.381  W 111 28.837.

The Barefoot Trail is part of a community effort and the vision of Captain Mike Brandt of the Pine-Strawberry Fire Dept. to reduce wildfire risk in the hamlets of Pine and Strawberry.  During 2013, many volunteers worked to complete the Barefoot Trail in time for the Fire on the Rim mountain bike race held in September.  Proceeds from this race benefit the Pine-Strawberry Fuel Reduction, Inc. program.  For more info on the Barefoot Trail and these programs, visit the following links:
