The Big Tree Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Round Dancer: The Big Tree was hit by lightning and blown apart. I have 4 more caches in the park. This one is as remote as I could possibly get it, but it gets few takers. It also floods badly each year and get full of mud. I can't check on it in hot weather either - too much bushwhacking.

Geocache Description:

This cache is to give you a real adventure in the city. It includes some bushwhacking to the box. Named for an unusual tree in LeFleur's Bluff State Park and intended to be a nice long nature hike. Use camping entrance on Lakeland Dr. Entry is $4. per car or purchase a State Park Pass for $50. or a Museum pass. Winter is the easiest time due to lack of pests. Tighten log securely as area floods each year.

Take the gravel road on right soon after the Ranger gate house. This is the Mays Lakes Day Use area. Take the trail straight ahead between the lakes. Go left on gravel road and look for Nature Trail on right after about a hundred yards. If short of time, drive around paved road to parking on left near dumpster (and turn off to the camping area). Be prepared to exit before dark so you can find your way (park closes at dark unless camping). You may post pictures of the tree. Please tighten Log Container as area often floods. Enjoy!
