Geocache Description:

Troop 595's 2014 Merit Bagde Hide - Light hike on a trail to a micro in the woods.

Troop 595’s Shovel of Freedom

Forged in a time when these things meant something to those who crafted and hefted them, the old Tool was a shell of it’s former self when the boys of Troop 595 recovered it from it’s shallow grave.

After examining the tool most of the Troop was ready to let cold steel lie... but one boy, rather one young Man, felt the ancient power longing to come through . Nik decided to take it to his shop in an effort to breathe new life into this relic.

Cleaned, sharpened, honed, and polished the Shovel of Freedom took on a new life with Nik and Troop 595. A Versatile tool used to fell saplings , tame wild fires, and serve as the symbol of strength and determination for the Troop the old relic now represents Freedom! It has been freed from it’s dusty grave and given a place of honor at this sacred spot!

Behold the Ring of Fire where the battered Stars and Stripes are retired from service and the Shovel of Freedom is used to disperse the honorable ashes and to discover the marred but not unbroken pieces from these Banners of Freedom.

Find the cache and discover one of these relics for yourself… right where Troop 595’s Shovel of Freedom left it for you. **Grommets from retired retired US flags will be placed into the cache as often as the Troop can replace them, please take one for your own piece of Freedom!

Please respect this place and feel free to inquire about witnessing one of these retirement sessions. The CBA who will own and maintain the cache are a group of local cachers looking to give back to the community through Geocaching and worked with the Scouts to earn a merit badge with the placement of this cache.
