[ITA] Un cimitero di campagna grande poco più di un orto, ma che ha scelto di essere luogo dei vivi tanto quanto lo è dei morti. Al centro dello spazio una «minima » chiesa del ’400, le tombe tutto intorno, loculi ai quattro lati. Dentro, gradini in pietra, l’altare di marmo e un Cristo di legno in croce che ha come soffitto il cielo.
Non c’è tetto, qui: il restauro del cimitero di Olmi San Floriano, cominciato dopo trent’anni di abbandono che avevano portato la chiesa di San Floriano alla rovina (nel 1959 l’attività parrocchiale era stata trasferita alla nuova sede del borgo di Olmi), è stato completato nel 2002, ed ha lasciato di proposito alla chiesa 'un’apertura verso l’alto'.
L’opera di recupero si è articolata attraverso il recupero dei materiali di costruzione della chiesa e del campanile ed il ripristino della funzione cimiteriale, per cui l’area delle sepolture è stata sistemata per rendere operativo il cimitero, prevedendo anche un ampliamento futuro.
Si è inoltre voluto evidenziare il significato del legame tra la chiesa e il cimitero, facendo di essi un’unica realtà consacrata alla memoria dei defunti. La chiesa, infatti, rimane a cielo aperto e le sepolture entrano fino a metà navata: tutta l’area è dedicata alla morte ed anche la meridiana, con la scritta ”dopo la notte il giorno”, rinsalda questo concetto: dopo la morte la resurrezione.
Per la comunità dei fedeli di Olmi-San Floriano, a San Floriano questo edificio è il monumento alla memoria, il luogo custode del passato, il monumento alla liturgia dei defunti; la chiesa di Olmi è invece il monumento al presente, alla liturgia della vita.
Il complesso possiede già una forte suggestione data dalla solitudine del luogo e dalla bellezza-rovina di chiesa e campanile, oltre che dalla rarità d’un cimitero che circonda ancora una chiesa. Ma per adeguare il tutto al presente e per dare un forte segno di modernità, sono state destinate quattro sepolture all’ingresso della chiesa. Fuori, addossati alla facciata, due per ciascun lato dell’ingresso, quattro tombe sormontate da lapidi colorate, quasi quadri presi a prestito da una mostra d’arte contemporanea. Incroci di linee a due colori, forme geometriche nette, effetti ottici... Il contrasto è forte e lo si può incontrare di giorno come di notte, perché qui è tutto illuminato e la serratura del cancello d’ingresso al camposanto non è mai chiusa.
Un luogo particolare, che può piacere o meno ed ha fatto discutere, ma di sicuro fa pensare.
[ENG] A little countryside cemetery, not bibber than a vegetable garden, but that has chosen to be a place for living people as much as it is for the dead. In the middle, a "minimal" church of the XV century, all around the tombs, niches on the external sides. Inside, stone steps, a marble altar and a wooden Christ on the cross; the sky is the ceiling.
There is no roof, here: the restoration of the cemetery of Olmi San Floriano, set off after thirty years of neglect that had led the church of St. Florian to ruin (in 1959, parish life had been transferred to the newly set Olmi village), was completed in 2002, and has deliberately left 'an open side towards the sky'.
The restoration work has been carried out through the recovery of the materials of the church and the bell tower, and the restoration of the cemetery, including a future expansion for the burial area.
The significance of the link between the church and the cemetery has been highlighted, making them a single entity dedicated to the memory of the dead. The church, in fact, has an open roof and burials come up to the middle of the nave: the entire area is devoted to death and also the sundial, displaying the words "after the night the day", reinforces this concept: after death, resurrection will come.
For the community of Olmi-San Floriano, this building in San Floriano is the monument to the memory, the guardian of the past, the monument to the liturgy of the dead, while the church of Olmi is instead a monument to the present, to the liturgy of life.
The complex has a strong awesomeness given by the solitude of the place and the beautiful-ruined church and bell tower, as well as by the rarity of a cemetery still surrounding a church. But in order to adapt all this to present time and to give a strong sign of modernity, four burials were allocated at the church entrance. Outside, two on each side of the entrance, four tombstones surmounted by colored panels, that almost look like paintings borrowed from a contemporary art exhibition. The contrast is strong and you can see it day and night, as everything is lit up and the entrance gate lock is never closed.
Like it or not, it is a peculiar place, that made people talk. For sure it will make you think.
