Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series of caches along the beautiful Warhill Sports Complex multi-use trail commemorating those who influenced the English settlement of James City County, and by extension, the United States. The trail is 3.5 miles long, but has many exit and entrance locations, which you can find here. You are looking for a camo'd spice bottle.

When James I assumed the crown from Elizabeth I, he entered into a public-private venture to support merchant efforts at colonizing the new world for England. Using Walter Raleigh's concept of calling the middle coast of the new world "Virginia," in honor of the Virgin Queen Elizabeth, King James (yes, that King James) incorporated two companies: the Virginia Company of London and the Virginia Company of Plymouth. While the VCoP attempted a colony in what is now Maine and failed, the VCoL successfully established a colony at Jamestown. Had the crown and merchants not made a corporate alliance, nor had shareholders not bought into the Virginia Company of London, the settlement at Jamestown likely would not have happened. Who knows what language we here in the US would be writing our cache descriptions had the VCoL not succeeded at establishing Jamestown. Read more at the National Park Service Jamestown website.

Because the trail is set in a wildlife conservation area, please take special care to not disturb the vegetation (or the wildlife!). The caches are set up to be easy for you to find. If your coordinates indicate that a cache is in a tree, please check the foot of the tree first, then along the trunk. Caches will never be out along the branches or in shrubs or bushes. If it takes more than a minute or two to find the cache, please check the hint. The trail is open from 7 am until sunset.

Thanks to James City County for keeping up such a beautiful trail and letting us cache here!
