Geocache Description:

Brewster's Tavern

SITE OF GOVERNMENT SEAT

AND TOWN SOCIAL CENTER

OFTEN VISITED BY GEORGE WASHINGTON

1765 - 1799

Brewster's Tavern was a favorite gathering place of Patriots during the American Revolution.  George Washington is known to have spent some time in Blooming Grove, NY.  As a leading Patriot and eventual Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, I can easily imagine him coming to the area before and during the Revolution, travelling on the very spot where you will end up.  Today, there is no more tavern or social center (which may refer to a meetinghouse built by settlers in 1759).  What there is however, is a neat little well that serves as a reminder of what used to stand here during a defining time in this country's history.

Cache is a small plastic container that can hold small trinkets for trade. Will also accept small TBs.  There is a little "string doll" for FTF!

Parking is available right across the street on Horton Road, either in the Police Station or on Horton itself (there aren't any "No Parking" signs along the north side of the road).  Easy parking can also be found behind the Police Station by Senior Center.

Congrats to Birder428 on FTF and Lizrdh on FTNF!!
