Geocache Description:

I’m not much of a hockey fan, in fact I can barely even skate let alone play the game. I do enjoy watching the game from time to time. But the game is almost an iconic symbol of Canada. Almost as iconic as the story of a young fan of the Montreal Canadiens who is accidentally sent a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey to replace his tattered old hockey sweater.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. In order to determine the correct coordinates, you will need to answer a few questions based on the story.

Chances are very good that you have heard the story of the young boy, growing up in a small town in Quebec, who accidentally received the Toronto Maple Leafs sweater to replace his tattered Montreal Canadiens sweater, in which case you might be able to solve the puzzle from memory. If not, there are many ways to get the answers. The story, as narrated by the author, is freely available on many websites. Or you can find a print copy, which is available through many local libraries. But I personally recommend you watch the short animated film, because how the story is animated and narrated is just as interesting as the story itself. But you can choose for yourself. Please be advised that I used the "official" video (free online) to gather the information for this puzzle, and that the story changes slightly among the different versions that I have reviewed. However, the key points including the numbers required do not seem to change.

The container is made to reflect the theme of the puzzle, and only hold a logsheet. Finding it should be very simple once you have the correct coordinates. I will provide additional information via the geochecker, once the correct coordinates have been entered there. That information might be helpful, but it not required nor will it make the find any easier or harder

And now for the puzzle

The correct coordinates are N 43 AB.ABA and W 79 CD.EFG

A = the sum of the two digits in the age of the boy when the new sweater was ordered, from the line “for my son, Roch, who is __ years old and is a little tall for his age"

B = the number of dollars sent to Monsieur Eaton, from the line "I'm sending you _ dollars, please send me the change if there is any"

C = the third digit in the year to which the story takes place, from the line “I remember very well the winter of 19__ __"

D = the number of Maurice Richards on the ice, minus 2, from the line "we were ___ Maurice Richards, against ___ other Maurice Richards"

E = the number of weeks that elapsed before the new sweater arrived, from the line "Monsieur Eaton answered my mother's letter promptly. ___ weeks after she wrote it, we received the sweater. It was one of the greatest disappointments in my life"

F = the fourth digit in the year to which the story takes place, from the line “I remember very well the winter of 19__ __"

G = the number wore on the back of the Canadiens hockey sweaters, from the line "we all wore the famous number ___ on our backs
