Geocache Description:

Meet and greet and learn something about WA geology and the Boya Quarries.

>>>SUNDAY 30TH OF MARCH 2014<<<

The cache owner of the 3 Earth caches at the quarry, DarkEnergy, is in Perth for a visit and would love to meet and greet our WA cachers. He is happy to give any help and answer questions about the EC caches and hold an informal information session for anyone interested in the EC caches or geology. So bring your pen and printouts for the 3 earth caches and you can go home with not one smilie for the event but with at least 3, even 4 Earth cache smilies if you want to do the Mountain Quarry EC across the road as well.

The event will start at 10am and finish at 1pm.
Parking is available on Approach Road at the entrance to the park and also on the other side on Victor Rd. Distances from both roads are pretty much the same.

There will be a log book to sign and a few new caches along the way to sweeten up the walk from the parking spot. Bring your chair and a picnic lunch. Unfortunately there are no toilets available.

NOTE:

While the Shire of Mundaring does not actively promote the use of Hudman Quarry because of unassessed safety concern (ROCK FALLS!), it may be entered as public open space and at your own risk.

EarthCaches at Boya Quarry Explained
The EarthCaches at Boya Quarry offer educational studies in Western Australian geology from the emplacement of the Archean granitoids (between about 2.7 and 2.6 billion years ago) through the intrusions of the Proterozoic dolerite dykes (from 1,500 to 700 million years ago) and to the formation of laterites between Oligocene and Early Miocene (30 and 15 million years ago).

EarthCaches to Visit
1. [GC42K2P: Xenolith at Boya Quarry by Dark Energy].
2. [GC45MQP: Shearing Events at Boya Quarry by Dark Energy ].
3. [GC3GFYX: Lateritic Profile at Boya Quarry by Dark Energy].

The explanation of these geologic events will be explained in the most basic geology terms from rock identifications to geological concepts.

We hope to see you there!
