Geocache Description:

This CITO is to be held at Waterford Oaks County Park. 1702 Scott Lake Road, Waterford, MI 48328.

YOU DO NOT NEED A PARK PASS TO ATTEND THIS EVENT

BY ATTENDING THIS CITO, YOU WILL EARN THE 2014 CITO SOUVENIR.

Please join us from 9:30 am until noon on Saturday April 26th at the posted coordinates. We will be teaming up to spot and mark Garlic Mustard, old fencing and dump piles. The main purpose of this CITO is to gather information to give back to the parks. We will be focussing on finding, getting coords, and describing the spots we find.

Please log your "will attend" or "watch" this page since there will be some updates on the details.

At noon, we will be having a potluck lunch in the park. I will supply hotdogs, buns and condements. Please let me know in your "will attend" what you will be bringing for the potluck lunch.

Garlic Mustard

Garlic mustard is an exotic invasive plant from Europe that invades woodland habitats in North America and impacts forest biodiversity. In some woodlands, dense stands of garlic mustard in the spring threaten showy spring blooming ephemerals like spring beauty, trilliums and trout lilies. Other research points toward potentially negative impacts on timber species and forest health. Many land managers consider it to be one of the most potentially harmful and difficult to control invasive plants in the region. Waterford Oaks is a 185-acre park near Pontiac, headquarters of the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission. Waterford Oaks features a waterpark with a wave action pool, group raft ride and interactive water playground. Other activities at Waterford Oaks include a Bicycle motocross track, Paradise Peninsula Playscape, sand volleyball, platform tennis, an activity center and lookout lodge, picnic shelters, a sledding hill, greenhouse, more than 3 miles of hiking trails, more than 1.5 miles of paved trails, and of course Geocaching. There are already many geocaches in the park and I'm sure there will be some new ones for those attending this event.
