Cachen ligger like ved rådhuset i Alta kommune.
Alta er en kommune i det vestlige Finnmark. Byen har hatt bystatus siden 2000, og folketallet ligger på like under 20.000 innbyggere (januar 2014). På folkemunne går byen gjerne under navnet "Nordlysbyen". Alta har tradisjonelt vært en bastion for venstresida i politikken, og har siden krigen stort sett hatt ordfører fra Arbeiderpartiet. Ved valget 2011 oppnådde en koalisjon bestående av Høyre, Fremskrittspartiet, Kystpartiet og Venstre en samlet oppslutning på 56% og 21 av 35 kommunestyrerepresentanter. Valgresultatet ble delvis forklart med motstand mot bompengefinansiering av E6 gjennom Alta. Alta er kjent for sin bergkunst og skiferproduksjon.

At the 2011 elections produced a coalition of the Conservative Party, the Progressive Party, Coastal Party and the Liberal Party an overall response rate of 56% and 21 out of 35 local councilors. The election result was partly explained by resistance to toll financing of E6 through Alta. Alta is known for its rock art and slate production.
