Geocache Description:

Smelting Pot Circa 1883

I drive by this every single day, had to stop to investigate.  The history of this town fascinates me and draws me in.

It will be wheelchair accesible in spring summer but perhaps not when there is snow on the ground

I work for the current company that occupies the former Trenton Works Ltd. buildings, and am fascinated by the history of this industrial town.  I love working in a manufacturing/industrial environment, it is a pace and excitement and lifestyle unlike any other.  The 160 acre site has been home to a variety of companies relating to the steel industries since the 1870s, everything from steel mill to rail cars to wind turbines.
The plant is a vast space, familiar with building large scale items!

Trenton has a long long history with the various incarnations of companies related to the steel industry. One of the first being Hope Iron Works in 1872, followed by Nova Scotia Forge Company and many others to follow.  One of the most notable was Trenton Works Ltd., and the town  has a a long memory for the site that provided employment for more than a century.  Many of the current employees of DSTN: DSME Trenton were employees of Trenton Works, and the town is struggling to adjust to it's new reality since the closure of Trenton Works in 2007.  Currently the site is owned and operated by DSTN: DSME Trenton Ltd, building wind turbines and pressure vessels with future diversification in the works.  I look forward to seeing it teeming with activity once again.

Detailed history of the previous incarnations of this plant are easily available by doing a google search on Trenton Works Ltd.
