Freer Woods in February Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

sunflowersu: I have returned to GZ a number of times, and checked out another area not too far away, but I have decided to archive this one and not place a new one at this time. GZ has lots of muggle visitors; there is a bench nearby and teens often hang out and have bent over and broken young trees, and apparently have taken this cache at least a couple of times. I haven't found another spot that would be suitable, and with the many muggles due to increased use of the park, I am tired of replacing caches. It had been a beautiful cache, especially in February snow.

Geocache Description:

Freer Woods is such a beautiful woods to walk through, even in February when it is covered with snow.  Since two caches already exist in the woods, and sometimes are a challenge to find, I think it is time for a third -- "neither here nor there."  It may be easier to find, but cachers will decide. The container is camoed. BYOP

Placed in one of sixteen parks owned and/or maintained by the Ashland County Park District, this cache is near a trail.  This is a busy woods with dog-lovers walking family pets and "runners" darting over the trails.  This woods has been especially beautiful this winter with all of the snow we are having.  Parking is available at the west end of the woods in a gravel lot off of Park Street, or at the east end of Freer Field behind the big white barn.  It should be noted that getting accurate coordinates in this woods is difficult. It often bounces around. At this particular cache placement, I didn't have bounce so much as being off by 5-7 feet at times. You may want to comment on coordinates when you log your find. Also, when snow is especially deep, the parking lots may not be plowed. There is a FTF "Signal" geocoin for the first cacher. This cache is placed with permission of the Ashland County Park District.

UPDATE as of 9/4/15: Because I am not able to change the coordinates at the top of this cache page, I am giving you instructions here to help you find the new location. (It will sort of be like following the steps to find a letterbox.) Find the coordinates with your GPSr that are officially listed. When you are standing at that GZ, look north--you should see a foot bridge over a small creek. Proceed over the bridge and up the incline, veer to the right where the paths separate. You should be walking east. (I haven't paced off the distance, but I am guesstimating that it is about 20-40 feet from where the paths separate to where you want to be on the path going east.) Look to your left, toward north/northeast and you will see a fairly good size tree, about twenty feet from the path. You will want to approach this tree. You can check your GPSr for coordinates to see if they match or are close to the new ones I posted in a note below (N 40 51.234 W 082 18.832). Because of the tall trees, it is often difficult to get accurate cords, as many of you already know. I hope these directions help those who would like to find this cache. It is up off the ground. Congratulations to monkeys_dad for FTF and grabbing his first FTF geocoin! Looks like congratulations for 2ndTF goes to Gregreggregg!
