This log house was built by John Long in Elizabeth Township several miles east of here. I suspect Long Hollow is named after them. John and Mary Long raised their children in this house.
This house is a typical rural home of the mid-1800s, with the living area on the first floor and the sleeping area in the loft.
Henry and Rosina Binns lived in this house in the 1900s. They also raised their children in this home.
The house was always heated by stoves, the second story being heated by the chimney. Mrs. Binns said “My husband would make a fire in the fall and it would go all winter. We had lots of chimney fires.
The house was dismantled, moved to this location and restored.
The final can be found at N 42 24.ABC W 090 25.DEF
AB = The year the Binns moved in, minus the year the house was built, minus the miles the house was moved.
C = The year the house was moved to this location, minus the year the Binns moved out, minus 3.
D = The number of children raised in the house by the Longs.
E = The number of children raised in the house by the Binns, plus 2.
F = The average number of Chimney fires in an 8 month heating season.
