The Eye of Cyclops
This cool geological enigma of this rogue bit of basalt mysteriously deposited
on top of this sandstone monolith can be seen from many areas
of St. George and beyond.
BUT...
Am I the only one who sees that the triangular deposit of black basalt is
actually the Eye of Cyclops,
and that Cyclops has a big double chin, and he is holding up his
right fist ready to punch something?
If your imagination needs some prompting, the Cyclops looks something like this:
You wont have to go anywhere near the actual question mark coordinates
because Cyclops can be seen from most of Highway 18 between Ledges and Winchester.
Once you see the eye and accept your destiny,
I will leave it to you to determine your route.
You can get to The Eye of Cyclops several different ways,
I chose the top approach, driving in Old Dump Road
and hiking across Black Gulch via Langes Dugway
because my old hiking buddy, Gracie the Dog, is not as capable
of uphill scrambles as she once was.
This jeek was originally placed under a bush in the middle of The Eye,
but the BLM told me I can't put it there, but if I moved it just 250 feet to the top of
the mesa it would be in an approved area. So I moved it to
N 37° 12.831 W 113° 36.072 which is where you can find it.
