Geocache Description:

On May 4th, from 10am til 4pm come out and join PAGA for the first annual Penn Forest Cacher Potluck Picnic!

BRING YOUR CAMP CHAIRS AND PICNIC BLANKETS!!

Penn Forest Natural Burial Park is Pennsylvania’s first exclusively green cemetery and is committed to creating a beautiful burial park where nature is at the forefront.  It is located 13 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh on 32 acres in Penn Hills.  The property is bordered by Plum Creek on the one side, and thus, offers vast changes in elevation for cachers to traverse while searching for caches of all types and sizes

possible schedule of events:
registration from 10-11
Announcements and introductions - 11
event caching (poker run type) from 11:15-3
tours of property 11-3
lunch 12-1:30
Kids activities 11-12 and 1:30-3
awards and group picture 3:30
clean up and depart around 4

During the picnic, there will be several temporary caches placed and in the future, we hope to hide a few permanent ones for cachers to seek year round.  We also hope to return in the fall for a CITO to help work on their trail system.  This picnic, however, will just be an introduction to the land and will offer some etiquette for those caching on hallowed ground.

We will be supplying beverages, hot dogs and hamburgers, so bring along a side dish or dessert to share and please label it for those with allergies. We will not have power to keep the food warm, so try to bring something that doesn’t require a heat source.

So, come on out to Penn Hills on May 4th between 10am and 4pm and join us for some good food, fellowship and caching!!   Come prepared to win some prizes as we will have some games and door prizes.  As always, if you have anything you would like to donate to the door prize pile, the more prizes, the more winners!  The terrain will range from flat to cliff, so sturdy shoes and hiking sticks might be helpful.  Hiking and finding the caches isn’t a requirement to log this event, so even if you just want to come out and chill, please come on out and say hello!!

We want to extend a huge thank you to Penn Forest Natural Burial Park to open its property to us!!  Thank you, and we hope to continue to build on this blossoming  relationship!  The coordinates are for their private drive which is located at: 121 Colorado Street, Verona PA 15147.  Turn left into the drive and follow it back to parking.  If needed, there will be someone there to assist you with parking.

Stay tuned for more information! We will be sure to make an announcement if we update the page at all.   We are still ironing out all of the details and creating the schedule but wanted people to have a chance to get it on their calendars!
