CITO - Ethy Woods at Lerryn Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

pencoise: Thanks again to all who attended - I walked by yesterday with a friend doing the Ethy Woods Caches and the piles of holly are quite awesome, as was the amount of light now penetrating the area we cleared. I am sure that somewhere deep in the woods I heard the sound of Gazza still lopping!! [;)]
Time to archive this one as everyone has logged it.

Geocache Description:

Help support the National Trust with a clean up and preservation activity day at the Ethy Woods Estate.

The National Trust (NT) are very positive supporters of geocaching especialliy here in Cornwall.

The local ranger for NT in South East cornwall has asked us to give him a hand doing some upkeep such as clearing/pruning undergrowth in Ethy Woods which have recently been surveyed as a site of rare and unusual lichens and bryophytes (I think they are mosses but I'm no botanist!!). The rare species might enable the NT to obtain SSSI status for this area if the lichens are enabled to develop.

The recent gales have felled a few large trees in the woods so all the more reason to clear some of the smaller undergrowth to allow the woods to recover.

The headline coordinates are for the Lerryn Car Park and we have arranged to meet  at 10 am on the Sunday morning. We will then walk the short distance around to Ethy Woods. The plan is to work from 10 am to 4 pm but anyone willing to help out for part of that time will be most welcome. Those who have not already done so will have an opportunity to grab the 5 Ethy Woods Ramble Caches - I might even add a couple more just to tantalise!!

Please bring weather appropriate clothing, a packed lunch and gardening gloves if you have them. Any tools and equipment will be provided by Rob, the NT Ranger.

This is an opportunity to support the National Trust and to pay them back for their support in allowing us to place our caches on their land all over Cornwall.

Please come along and give a hand to support caching in the community and help the local environment in this very pretty corner of Cornwall.

This is also the start of British Summer Time - the clocks go forward at 2 am this morning so we have lots of bright days ahead!! All the more reason to lurk in the woods.

It is also Mothers Day - what better treat could Mum wish for - a day in the countryside cutting down the undergrowth followed by a meal at a nearby pub - "perfick"!!
