Geocache Description:

There are two nice art and design galleries in Shenzhen, He Xiangning Art Museum and the OCT Art and Design Gallery.

He Xiangning Art Museum is China’s 2nd national contemporary art museum, the first national art gallery named after an individual. The artist He Xiangning was born in Hong Kong, when she was still young she travelled to Japan. Ms. He studied about Art at the Ueno School of Art in Tokyo. Ms. He’s favorite objects to paint were the plum blossoms which can be seen in much of her paintings. The plum blossoms symbolized courage and purity challenging the frost and snows of winter.

Besides Ms He's paintings, the gallery has shifting exhibits mainly of avant garde and modern Chinese art. Some of China’s best known painters regularly exhibit there and it is definitely worth a visit.

Being adjacent to He Xiangning Art Museum, the OCT Art and Design Gallery is China’s first gallery themed in pioneer design, officially launched on 1st September, 2008. The OCT Art and Design Gallery is built on purpose to drive forth and develop the vanguard design, which involve varied design industries such as graphic and space design, product and fashion, digital and animation design and targeting many other dynamic and contemporary art events.

The main building of The OCT Art and Design Gallery is renovated from an old warehouse. A hexagonal glass curtain wall, which is made by overlapping steel structures, forms of shell around the original building and works to preserve the heritage within.
