This cache is near a ToNS producer. The cache site is one that rivals just about everywhere on Nova Scotia for historic value. The producer, at the time of placement, is the newest of it's kind but the "farm" where the cache is located is one of the oldest in the province and was used by pioneering producers in the province.
The cache site is actually situated along the old road running from Halifax to Newport Landing, a historic port in it's own right as described by other caches in the area. The main buildings you will see on the way to the cache were not originally located in the spaces they occupy now. The main building is actually St Matthew's Church from Walton, NS built in 1844 where it served the town for 150 years. It was relocated 42 km to the southwest by sea and placed where you see it now. The barn that the producer uses for a majority of production was also relocated from Sweet's Corner, 10 km away on the St Croix river. The area around ground zero is suspected to be the remnants of an orchard that dates back to an Acadian settlement established in the late 1600's. Other structures survive from this era including a house you will pass on the way to the cache, once owned by the famous photographer, Sherman Hines, that was originally a French mission, constructed in 1699.
Don't forget to look for some of the other caches in the series.
