Geocache Description:

The Sluice Gate is a small reminder of the main industry that once dominated this area. The Surviving SLUICE GATE of a bleach field that regulated the flow of water on the Kirkton Burn is all that is left of the once vast mill. The bleach field (now covered by the car park at the side of the supermarket) was used to bleach the cotton naturally before the advent of chemicals.

Please note this cache is full wheel chair accessible, there is NO need to climb over walls or fences.
