Geocache Description:

Finding a great geocache can make for an awe-inspiring adventure, but those adventures do not magically appear on their own. They are concocted inside the brilliant mind of a Geocache Maker. This crazy thing we call geocaching would simply not exist without the people who channel their creativity and innovative spirit into making great experiences for others.

Groundspeak are asking geocache Makers (and folks who want to celebrate their favourite Makers) to host events between 28th March and 7th April 2014 to celebrate geocache creation and to inspire the next generation of geocache makers. This is one such event.

Event Date: Sunday, 6th April 2014

Event Time: 12:00 Noon – 15:00 pm

Where: Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm, Bidston, Wirral.

Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm, based on Bidston Hill, Wirral has lots to do for the whole family. It has many animals including pigs, sheep, goats, chickens and geese. It's a great opportunity for children of all ages to meet and learn about farm animals up close. There’s also a café offering a wide selection of snacks, meals and drinks. The farm is wheelchair and pushchair friendly, and dogs are welcome in all areas except the picnic area, provided they are on a lead.

What:

The event will be based around a couple of picnic benches within the lawned picnic area. We’ll probably be at the end furthest from the buildings as it can get quite busy on a sunny day.

In advance, cachers are invited to use their imagination and create a special/unusual geocache (or geocaches). On the day they need to bring it/them along and donate it/them to the event. These need to be handed in by 13:00pm. They will all be put on display.

a) All attendees will receive a vote to cast for their favourite donated cache. Voting will be between 13:00pm – 14:00pm. The two caches (one from a child, the other from an adult) receiving most votes will each receive a prize.

b) All attendees will be able to ‘blind bid’ for these ready made caches. Once the prizes for the favourite caches have been awarded, the highest bid for each will win the cache. All money raised will be donated to the UK Mega event for 2016 being held in North Wales.

In addition it is hoped to have a mini-workshop for attendees to make their own geocache and join in the “Maker Madness”. Materials will be supplied and are likely to comprise mainly natural items found on Bidston Hill.

There are already some geocaches hidden on Bidston Hill, including “Tam O’Shanter” (GC3CT1M) that is on the farm and close to this event. It is hoped that some new ones may go live on the day.

Finally, anyone who logs an “Attended” at this “Maker Madness” event will earn a Maker Madness souvenir for their geocaching profile, and will also be presented with a certificate confirming completion of their geocache maker training!
