South Dakota Fun Fact: Find a sunken Missouri River riverboat from the late 1800's and you could find treasure. Legend says the "Montana" was loaded with gold bullion when it sank near present day Pierre. Another legend says the "North Alabama", which sank after hitting a submerged cottonwood near Vermillion, was laden with treasures. Or, you can go find your own treasure in another sunken riverboat on the Missouri River. About 30 such ships sank between Yankton and Omaha. Have fun!
