Geocache Description:

This easy to moderate woodland and coastal walk leads from the back of the Dundonald Castle Visitor Centre (beside which there is a large information signboard map showing the route) through the ancient woodland and over the hill to Collennan Farm past the reservoir with its splendid views of the Firth of Clyde. It then passes along Main Street, Loans, down through Fullarton Woods, past Crosbie Kirk, along the Wrack Road across Royal Troon Golf Course, and ends up at South Beach, Troon.

This historic route has been in regular use from early times and takes about 45 minutes from Dundonald to Collennan, with the total walk taking about 2 hours. There are car parks at Dundonald Castle and South Beach, Troon.

This part of the trail takes in the walk from Dundonald to Collennan with car park at the reservoir for two car cachers (please see waypoints for car parking cords). It is an easy to moderate woodland walk, it can be muddy at times with some steep inclines, so good footwear is recommended. During the late winter months the woodland floor is amass with snowdrops, then in spring the ground can be a carpet of bluebells with wild garlic filling the air with its strong aroma. There are lots of birds to listen to and deer can be spotted if you are quiet enough.

This trail has been laid out with the younger smugglers (geocachers) in mind, but the walk is just as good for the older smuggler as it is for the younger ones, oh and not to mention a great walk for your geohounds.

All of the Smuggler Trail cachers were lost when smuggling GeoSwag from Troon to the dungeons at Dundonald Castle for use during the UK's Mega event in Ayrshire. One Smuggler took it upon himself to hide all the swag in a treasure chest and hide it somewhere along the route.

To locate the Smuggler's Treasure Chest, you must first find the smugglers lost caches set out on this part of the Smugglers Trail. In some of these caches you will find hints to locate the treasure chest. All hints are in the liods.

All of the hides are with in reach of the path, some are low level, some are higher. Please replace cammo
