Seasoned cachers, newbies, and “just interested” folks are all welcome to attend this set of six mini-seminars and join in a lively discussion time as we consider how to create great geocaching experiences for others to enjoy. We’ll cover both basic and advanced techniques for choosing a location, fashioning containers and online cache pages, and maintaining your cache. Even if you’re a veteran cacher, you’ll learn some new tricks, and everyone who logs an “Attended” on geocaching.com will receive the Maker Madness souvenir icon.
The event will be on Saturday, March 29, starting at 2 pm and will last until 3:30 pm. Meet at the new Henderson County Athletics & Activity Center at 708 S. Grove Street in Hendersonville. (The building is the former Hendersonville Christian School, about two blocks off Spartanburg Highway and south of Jackson Park. Enter at "Office" and go upstairs.)
First, we’ll hear a brief introduction to geocaching, in case anyone is new to our sport. Following will be six short mini-seminars on these subjects:
- Various types of hides and how to submit a hide for publication.
- Selecting a great location and getting accurate coordinates.
- Container basics.
- Creative containers.
- Spicing up your online cache page.
- Keeping a great cache great – cache maintenance.
After drawings for several geo-prizes, we will end with a question and answer/discussion time. Long-time cache hiders, this will be your opportunity to share all your cool ideas and crafty skills. If you have any unusual cache containers that you’d like to show off or any ideas to share, bring them with you! Light refreshments will be served.
Be on the lookout for new hides nearby! Oh, and you might want to bring a towel...
