Geocache Description:

Historic GA – Captain Smith

Another Historic GA Cache. Captain Smith was a member of Company B, 44th Regiment; Georgia Volunteer Infantry; Army Of Northern Virginia; C. S. A.; Jasper County, Georgia; Jasper Volunteers. He was discharged due to disability on march 4, 1862. Make sure to look around this long abandon area. Other interesting sites can be seen here.

This is placed with permission within the safety zone at  Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center (CEWC). The 6,400-acre Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center, managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, offers a variety of activities and programs.

CEWC offers geocaches located along several roads or hiking trails; the red trail, the blue trail and the yellow trail. Parking is found at two different locations and several trail heads begin at each parking area.  One parking area is at the Charlie Elliot Visitor’s Center and another at the Brooke Ager Discovery Center.  All visitors to CEWC who are not part of Conference Center group need to have a GORP pass or a WMA license which can be purchased here.  Be sure to check out the Charlie Elliott Visitor’s Center while you are here.

This is a short two stage multi that requires two short hikes and a one mile drive between the two stages.  Park in the Raleigh Pond parking area and follow the trail to the left.  As in all of these caches, it requires that the geocacher read a little history. Stage one will take you to the history you will need to solve the cache.

To solve the final cache, fill in the year for the blank numbers.

Captain William C. Smith was born in the year A  B  C  D

Captain William C. Smith died in the year E  F  G  H.
