The Event

We're a little late this year for the true winter warmup, but there will probably still be snow on the ground!

For the 9th installment of the Western Mass Winter Warmup, once again we'll meet at the community room at the library for some food, conversation and fun! We'll supply the hot chocolate, marshmallows and whipped cream. We'd love for you to bring along a snack to share.

As usual, we'll make this a two part event with dinner to follow later.  This will allow us to fit in a swim banquet, while everyone else goes caching, and still meet up for some more fun at the Steaming Tender.

The Contest

This year we decided to change up the event a bit - we're looking for geocachers to submit pictures for our contest.  We will then be awarding prizes and certificates to the best of show in each category.  Submitted pictures will be shown as a slideshow during the event.

Categories are as follows:

  • Best picture with a travelbug
  • Best view from a cache
  • Funniest caching picture
  • Best event picture
  • Best geo-pet picture
  • Funniest travelbug story
  • Funniest geocaching story

The first 5 categories will be voted on by Dosido's crack team of expert photojournalists, who have a combined 18 years of WMWW experience, and are totally unbiased, though they can often be bribed by donuts or other nefarious means (ask Trailbuzzards for tips here).

The last two categories will be voted on by attendees - the funniest travelbug story, and funniest geoaching story.  Both require pictures to go along with the story, and geocachers that submit their pictures will each have 2 minutes to tell their geocaching story, and we will vote for the winners at the event.

All winners will receive a certificate extolling their geocaching brilliance, and win a prize - though the bragging rights will take you much further than any prize won.

Please submit pictures (or send us the link if they're already posted on gc.com) to teamdilemma@geocaching.the-whites.org along with the category in which they are to be judged.  One entry per person per category.  No need to submit your story - only the picture - but be ready to tell it at the meet!  Please submit entries by Thursday, March 20th for proper insertion and voting.

The Rest

If you have young children, be sure to bring them along, as the library has a fantastic children's section that is very close to the community room!

Please advise in your log if you will be joining us at the Steaming Tender! We'll plan on meeting for dinner at 4pm.  Coordinates for the Steaming Tender can be found below in additional waypoints.  Hope to see you at the Warmup!
