In 1901 US Steel Corporation emerged by an intersection of people with names like Morgan, Carnegie and Schwab.  Several name changes and restructuring during it's first century only to return to its roots and become US Steel (USS) once again.  Today US Steel Corporation is a global powerhouse of steel making and forming and can be found on the NYSE using the stock ticker symbol "X".  In keeping with your expetations, "X" indeed marks the spot.
