There are many approaches to this mountain, but a scenic way up, on
good quad trails all the way, starts at the Montage Ski Resort off
of Montage Mountain Road in Moosic (access off of Route 81 Exit
182.) The gates to the parking area close at 4PM in the summer.
Trail starts behind the fence that surrounds the big white music
tent.
This will be a steep climb no matter what, but the view is worth
it. Co-ordinates should take you to a log in front of a fire ring
just off the trail. (Rich in Nepa had to re-hide the cache because
an animal dislodged it from it's original hiding place. Here are
Rich's new instructions to the cache. From the log, go 156 feet at
248 degrees. Thanks, Rich.
Afterwards, be sure to go down the footpath a little way beyond
the fire ring to a nice rock outcropping with a place to sit and
enjoy the view (hence the name of the cache.) This is at N
41.20.376, W 75.40.176. It's where I often eat my lunch. You'll be
looking at the Nesbitt Dam and in the distance you will see two
towers on a hill in the Gouldsboro/Clifton area. Be careful of
footing here as it's a long way DOWN.
The cache is a now an ammo can and contains:
- Geocaching notice
- Logbook, pens and pencils
- These items for trade:
- Frogs
- Pogs
- Origami decoder rings
- Scary creatures
- Ice Age animal in "ice cube"
By doing this cache you assume all liability
