Geocache Description:

This cache is on top of a hill in Calabasas behind Juan Bautista de Anza city park. It's a pretty quick find, but the short hike is a steep one, not exactly what you think of as a P&G. Other caches in the area make this one perfect for a multi-cache day, or you can stay at the park and play with the kids after the hunt.

Note from pianofab: The cache is now a camoed tea tin container. You may need a TOTT to open it, and a pen to sign the log.

Note from paleolith: On August 26, 2008, just before I adopted the Little Toy Box, the Lost Fire burned both the original cache location and the substitute location where others had put replacement containers, as well as virtually all possibilities for hiding a regular size cache nearby. Details of the change are in this maintenance log entry. birddroppings' original description is there also, since I had to rewrite it considerably due to the changes in conditions.

Looking up the hill

You will hike a wide, worn trail up the hill behind the roller hockey rink, to the edge of the area burned on August 26, 2008. This trail is steep but also pretty short. Coming down will be the trick as a butt plant will be almost likely at some point.

Two alternate routes are less steep, though also less dramatic. Instead of near the roller hockey rink, park at the corner of Lost Hills Road and Calabasas Hills Road. From there, you can see a broad track going roughly west up the hill -- it's very steep but not as steep as the roller hockey trail. This will take you to the top of the ridge.

You can also head almost directly for the cache, going up a draw -- look for a social trail just left of the draw, not the more visible one farther left which goes more directly to a low ridge. This is the easiest route (and paleolith's favorite).

The original theme of the cache was toys. This had been diluted over the years to the point of being unrecognizable.

Beautiful view across the canyon, especially at sunset. The start of the Bark Park Trail is visible in the lower left.
