Geocache Description:

This is part of our Nain Rouge Series, which both highlights the history of the Nain Rouge, as well as provides local geocachers with some higher terrain caches in the area featuring the Rouge River.

Someone saw the dwarf in late July of 1967. Later that week, in the early morning of July 23rd, Detroit police officers raided a speakeasy in the office of the United Community League for Civic Action. Expecting only a handful of patrons, they were ill-prepared to handle the 82 celebrating the return of two GIs from Vietnam. The crowd quickly turned on the police and escalated into 5 days of rioting. The toll on the city was tremendous: 43 people died, 467 were injured, 7,231 were arrested, 2,509 stores were looted or burned, 388 families rendered homeless or displaced and 412 buildings burned or damaged enough to be demolished.
