Following my 'water' theme this brings you to my most frequented playing field. Sit at the water's edge and watch the various types of paddlers on the lake.
At times during the summer months this lake is teeming with all sorts of paddling craft : canoes, kayaks, outrigger canoes, stand up boards and school aged rowing crews. My old Dragon-boat crew are here for 3 seasons so you can usually see a few boats out on the weekend (get up early with the water birds) and most week nights. A lot of noise and fun. Sunday race days are entertaining for the locals!
Some craft on this lake don't even use their arms to paddle, they use their feet. Special little canoes come fully equipped for fishing and even have a cool box in the front to keep their catch fresh. The many species of water birds hang around them hoping to get the ones which get away!
They are all here enjoying life at West Lakes, so take a couple of minutes and enjoy the activity, or just the quiet of the lakeside if you come out of season. Let me know if you see a Paddler or a Dotterel, one of the many water birds found here.
