Geocache Description:

Pratt Institute inspired us to bring a little creativity of our own to a place that is very dear to us. Visit the campus during daylight hours for a stroll around the old buildings or take an educational tour. There’s quite a bit of history to be found in this little corner of Historic Clinton Hill. Cache is accessible 24 hrs. Quick P&G outside of campus grounds on a relatively quiet street. Utilize stealth however, and please make sure the hide is re-hidden all safe & snug.

Pratt Institute is a private institution of higher learning located on a historic enclosed 25-acre campus. It was founded in 1887 by Charles Pratt with programs in engineering, architecture, and fine arts. Today, the Institute is primarily known for its highly ranked programs in architecture, interior design, illustration and industrial design. One of the more remarkable aspects of the college is the fact that it was one of the first colleges in the country open to all people, regardless of class, color, and gender. Moreover, many programs were tailored for the growing need to train industrial workers in the changing economy with training in design and engineering. Drawing, whether freehand, mechanical, or architectural, was thought of as being a universal language and united such diverse programs and thus all programs in the school had a strong foundation in drawing. In addition, the curriculum at the Institute was complimented by a large Liberal Arts program that continues on at Pratt to the present day.

Pratt campus is accessible by two public entrances, both of which close during the evening hours and are guarded by security 24 hours a day. The campus is very park-like, fully landscaped and open to the public as park space during the daylight hours. Many contemporary sculptures fill the gardens and landscape. The sculptures are loaned to Pratt on a rotating basis.

The campus is also host to many little nooks, crannies, rooms and underground points of interest that many people including students will never get to see. Attending Pratt in the past yielded ample opportunities to visit such magical spots. There are many points of interest above ground too. One of the most treasured resources of Pratt institute is the library. Here, students have access to multitudes of printed inspiration spanning many generations. They often lose themselves for hours among the venerable stacks, an endless series of books nestled amongst aged shelves and glass floors. It was in this library that certain scenes from the adult film Debbie Does Dallas were shot (without full knowledge or approval from the administration, as the story goes). So Pratt’s got that going for it, too…check it out sometime! (Not the movie, but the school).
