The Oregon Trail Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

CC Land Pirates: This was one of the great MLZH hides of all time but it is too hard to keep going for the tiny amount of traffic it gets.

Geocache Description:

You're about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime!

The year is 1848, and you and your fellow settlers have decided to find a new home in the Willamette Valley in Oregon by traveling along the Oregon Trail. You are starting off in Independence, Missouri and will be making the 2,000 mile trip to a new settlement out west (or maybe starting off in Ohio and traveling west to Indiana...). Yee haw!

At each stage, you will have two options, accompanied by coordinates. Choose correctly, and your adventure continues. Choose poorly, and you will be directed to a dead-end cache. Luck will matter more than reasoning for this multi. It’s recommended that you write down the two coordinates at each stage to prevent you from having to return to the previous cache. The first stage is at the posted coordinates. There are a total of 8 main stages in this multi, with an additional 7 dead-end caches, so your adventure can range from 8-15 caches. When you finally grab this smiley, be sure to include how many stages you attempted!

All stages (excluding the first and final stage) will consist of a 1.5/1.5 micro, with similar containers used across stages. The caches themselves are not meant to be difficult to find, so if you can’t seem to find one, it’s probably missing. The first and final are small-sized containers, with the final having room for swag and TBs. This multi is rated a 3 (difficulty) purely due to the high number of stages and the fact that it will likely take a good portion of time (~1-1.5 hr). The probability of finding this many stages means it is much more difficult than your usual 1.5 difficulty cache. The trail ahead is treacherous, so be prepared to travel along some unpaved roads. Please be mindful of private property driveways that may look similar to the unpaved roads, and avoid traveling on roads that have "No Trespassing" signs (like parts of Beach Road).

As an extra motivation for those cachers who are hesitant to go after such a large multi, we’ll be rewarding the first 5 caching teams with one of our 2014, first edition MLZH pathtags! The FTF team will receive an additional FTF prize!

This multi is inspired by the Oregon Trail videogame that was popular in the 1980’s and 1990’s. This game taught children about the life of the early settlers in America, and it was a big part of our childhoods. However, there is no need for you to be familiar with this game to attempt this multi. This multi is very family friendly!

CONGRATULATIONS TO CC LAND PIRATES FOR THE FTF!!!
