Geocache Description:

The Williamson Valley Road Series is a Friends of Morgan Ranch Nature Park history project. Even numbered caches are on the E side of the Rd & odd on the W for 44 mi. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU WORK 1 SIDE OF THE ROAD AT A TIME. Please pick up trash so the neighborhood trash-pickers are not drawn to the location.

Please treat the cache gently. GRANITE MOUNTAIN SCHOOL In 1899, the first Granite Mountain School was located on what would become the Stringfield Ranch. Granite Mountain District No. 32 was organized in 1918. Ralph Stringfield remembered attending the second Granite School in the 1930s on Kaiser Road east of the first school. “It was just a white building, 30 to 40 feet long, 20 feet wide. We had a stove, movable desks, and plain walls.” Stringfield’s parents, Lon and Garnet, often took in foster children to have enough students to qualify for a teacher. Ralph’s aunts were often hired as teachers. Theresa Stazenski remembers being a student at the school. “The teacher put me in charge of the other students when she had to take care of her two children and handicapped husband who lived in the attached apartment.” The school closed in 1941 and was moved to the Cooper-Morgan Ranch.
