The Williamson Valley Road Series is a Friends of Morgan Ranch Nature Park history project. Even numbered caches are on the E side of the Rd & odd on the W for 44 mi. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU WORK 1 SIDE OF THE ROAD AT A TIME. Please pick up trash so the neighborhood trash-pickers are not drawn to the location.
OUTER LOOP ROAD A 1992 survey near Outer Loop Road recorded Prescott Culture ceramic shards, stone artifacts, two circular mounds, and a possible cist site that could have served as either the final resting place of human skeletal remains or a fire pit. On top of nearby Table Mountain provided strategic line-of-sight views of other rock enclosures, which may have been vital for relaying warning signals. Yavapai County Public Works conducted cultural resources surveys on Williamson Valley Road from Pioneer Parkway to Outer Loop Road. Archeologists uncovered archeological occurrences ranging from structures to shards. Pit house villages and walled enclosures lined Williamson Valley Road and Prescott-Simmons Highway between Prescott and Walnut Creek, which indicates that the area was a major early prehistoric living area, undoubtedly fertile, with many hunting and gathering opportunities.
