Geocache Description:

The Williamson Valley Road Series is a Friends of Morgan Ranch Nature Park history project. Even numbered caches are on the E side of the Rd; odd on the W for 44 mi. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU WORK 1 SIDE OF THE ROAD AT A TIME. Please pick up trash so the neighborhood trash-pickers are not drawn to the location.

THE YAVAPAI PEOPLE The Yavapai primarily lived in wahm-boo-nyahs. When the weather was cold, they sometimes moved to caves or pits. The quick construction of housing was a necessity because of the sparse environment and threats of raiding parties from other tribes and whites. Brush shelters were covered with canvas or ragged blankets. Where water was reliable, more substantial housing was erected from juniper, mesquite, willow, or anything that was long and bendable. Because the tribe was made up of hunter gatherers, Yavapai life revolved around wild food; therefore, implements tended to be portable and reusable. Milling stones, left in place for later use, were used with manos and metates to crush and grind piñon nuts, mesquite pods, acorns, yucca pods, and berries. The Yavapai made pottery, water jars, Shallow dishes, deep cooking bowls, coiled and twined baskets, yucca-fiber water bottles, burden baskets, and winnowing and parching trays.
