The Williamson Valley Road Series is a Friends of Morgan Ranch Nature Park history project. Even numbered caches are on the E side of the Rd; odd on the W for 44 mi. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU WORK 1 SIDE OF THE ROAD AT A TIME. Please pick up trash so the neighborhood trash-pickers are not drawn to the location.
THE YAVAPAI AND SETTLERS Yavapai life drastically changed with the arrival of the Walker Party in 1863, when gold was discovered. Miners, settlers, and the military soon outnumbered the Yavapai. Loss of life was minimal from the resulting conflicts, but settlers lost much livestock to Indian raids. Due to the deprivation by the newcomers, the Yavapai were placed on reservations and, in the spring of 1875, were forced to march 180 miles to the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. The journey claimed the lives of more than 115 Yavapai men, women, and children. The Yavapai were allowed to return to their homelands in the early 1900s.
