Geocache Description:

A Hillfort refers to a former fortification enclosure with a typical wooden fort on top of the modified natural hill. The wooden forts are long ago gone but most of the hills are still available for you and archaeologists to explore. There are about 1000 hills in Lithuania identified as hillforts.

The hillfort is also known under Drobuksciai name. That is a small village on the way to Silale. Used for defensive purposes as far back as the First Millenium. Recently damed Vezus River guards the hill from the South. The hillfort used to host the Geniotas aka Guethe or Gnete manor (Gnetinhofe) back in the 14th Century.

It is easily reachable straight from the road, could be a little harder in warm time of the year due to some vine type vegetation that the hill is slightly overgrown from the East hence the terrain is 2.5. As of March 2014 the aluminum Hillfort ID plate was still on its designated concerete pole, amazingly not yet recycled by local metal thieves. The cache is a small plastic food box that made it's home in one of the stumps. It only contained a logbook initially but is capable to host some tiny swag or trackables. Find the stump that is 1.5 bicycle lenghts west of the lonely fir tree.
