I encourage everyone to click on the map on the cache page and click on MapQuest Aerial or Esri World map. Either one of these gives you a really cool image of what Gull Point really looks like. It will also show you where the caches are in more detail. Zoom in and look closely and you see how the trial zig zags to avoid ponds and wetlands!
Bayberry Bliss the Northern Bayberry, Myrica pensylvanica
A native shrub, the Northern Bayberry has many unique qualities. Because of the resin in thier branches and strong smell of the leaves they are resistant to deer browse. The thicket that is created by the dense shrubs is a good hiding place for birds although the berries are not very tasty for them.
The smell of the leaves is known to repell insects. As you walk by press hard on a leaf to release the fragrance into the air.
The waxy coating on the berries is used to create fragrant Bayberry Candles!!
