A cache and dash marking a historical location in Westward Ho! A level walk, but children and those in wheelchairs will need help with retrieval. Site is very slippery when wet!
Rudyard Kipling went to the United Services College in Westward Ho!, and his book Stalky & Co. is based on his school days there. The college was founded in 1874 by a company of Army Officers, and one of the roles of the USC was to educate the sons of ‘expat’ Englishman mostly Army officers, preparing boys to go straight into Sandhurst or Woolwich to train as Officers themselves. The college closed in 1904 - further information can be found here: http://www.westwardhohistory.co.uk/united-services-college.php Cache is a nano container - please be careful when retrieving and replacing - tweezers required. Children and those in wheelchairs will need help with retrieval and replacing cache. Be careful when approaching the cache site - the immediate vicinity of the cache site is slippery when wet, and very close to a main road.
