The eagles have had a tough time over the years. A few years back the tree with their nest fell over in a storm. Then in August 2012 one of the eagles was found by my nephew that was hit by a car. Unable to fly due to many bruises, the eagle was rehabilitated back to health and released back into the wild. "Injured bald eagle on the road to recovery Bird, at least 25 years old, was hit by vehicle By John Bojarski, Eagle Staff Writer A Butler County bald eagle is at a wildlife center just north of Harrisville, recovering after being hit by a vehicle. SUBMITTED PHOTO IRWIN TWP, Venango County — A Butler County bald eagle that was run over by a vehicle is rehabbing at a wildlife center just no...rth of Harrisville. The bird is at least 25 years old. Maryjane Angelo, director of Skye’s Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, said that she got a call on Aug. 21 from a man who found the eagle on Christie Road in Concord Township. Angelo went there and got the bird. Angelo took the bird to a veterinarian, who said that it had no broken bones but had a lot of bruising. Following that, she took it to the center for care. She said that she is not sure how long it will take to get the bird back into the wild. “We’re hoping it will be just a few more weeks,” Angelo said. She said that the eagle, which is on pain and anti-inflammatory medication, will be moved to a small enclosure in a few days, where it will begin to stretch its wings and fly short distances. Eventually, the eagle will be moved to the center’s 30-foot-by-100-foot aviary, where it will fly for longer periods of time and gain additional strength. Angelo said that the eagle is eating well and is regaining energy that it lost from the accident. The bird is one of three bald eagles that the center is taking care of, but this is the first one from Butler County that it has cared for. The adult male eagle is banded. When Angelo searched for the band info, she discovered that the bird was banded Aug. 21, 1987, 25 years before she rescued it."
