Welcome to my series of "Road Trip" hides........It seems impossible for me to take a road trip without music...and there are some tunes that I automatically crank up the volume for! A good Road Song is one that makes you want to sing along with it, one that stirs memories of past life events and relationships perhaps....and one that can jolt you wide awake if you find you need a bit of a 'boost'...crank up the music and enjoy!
Ok, if you are seeking this cache, you may have had to 'drive all night' depending on where you came from! This is only a 3 hour drive from Saskatoon but hopefully the temptation of geocaches in such a beautiful part of the province will attract people from other locations, near and far!
WELCOME TO CARROT RIVER-Freddy Cougar's home town! And up until April 2014, there were NO caches here! Freddy Cougar has remedied that problem and will continue to add caches in and around the town as there are many great sites for visitors to go check out. FC grew up on a farm 4 miles north east of Carrot River, went to school here, played almost all sports, was involved in the Student Representative Council and 4-H Lighthorse Club, and has good memories of growing up in "small town Saskatchewan".
Carrot River is a lovely town with friendly people and some really great attractions, including the Pasquia Park and its acclaimed golf course. Maybe you have heard about the discovery of BIG BERT-the remains of a 92 million year old crocodile found near the Park on the shores of the Carrot River. These were the first such remains to be found in North America! To the north of CR is Tobin Lake, a top fishing and recreation lake and another good place to visit is the E.B. Campbell HydroElectric Dam(formerly known as Squaw Rapids). More information can be found at http://www.carrotriver.ca
IF you did DRIVE all night, you may be interested in checking out the nearby building-a new addition to the town's landscape that was much needed and is much appreciated by locals and visitors alike!
I hope you enjoy Carrot River, the attractions, the people, and the geocaching experience. It is well worth driving all night to get to, if that is what it takes .
As Roy Orbison sang so well ... "I had to escape, The city was sticky and cruel, Maybe I should have called you first, But I was dying to get to you".... another great road song by my late husband's favorite singer!
