Geocache Description:

Nestor peak, elevation 3,088 feet, a former lookout site with views of Mt. Hood and the Hood river valley. An 8 mile roundtrip hike or ride from the given parking co-ordinates or drive to the top in a 4wd vehicle.

From what I could figure there was once a 40' wooden tower here, built in 1958 and destroyed in 1977 and then a cabin re-built and destroyed in 1995. There is still a small metal building built over the top of the old footings on sight. There used to be a pretty decent trail system encircling the buck creek basin. After years of neglect and logging there is now a maze of roads and re-routes to negotiate. The trails are open to hikers, horses and mt. bikes, a good map is recommended if you head up this way. To get to the trailhead, turn west off of Hwy. 141 at about the "6.5" mile mark and cross the White salmon river by Northwestern lake park. Continue straight when the road turns to gravel and take a left at the next intersection with a sign pointing toward "buck creek trailhead #1". Stay on the "N-1000" road as it winds up the hill for about 2 miles until you see a well marked road leading to the buck creek trailhead on the right. There is an outhouse and pretty decent trail system map here. NOTE: For the final leg from the summit down to the cache please use the old steps/pipes down the hill to avoid trampling the hillside, some brush wacking required. My co-ordinates are probably kinda crappy because of the tree cover and terrain, please feel free to post better ones.
