Geocache Description:

Plundering the Castle – Wow! That brought smiles to geocachers’ faces! When archived it had earned 57% Favourite Points, which puts it amongst the very best caches. Looking at the 1300-odd closest caches to Dunedin, only 1 in 11 have ≥ 30% FP. Just 1 in 20 have ≥ 40% FP. And a mere 1 in 30 have ≥ 50% Favourite Points.

Sadly, once a motorway was developed past the Castle, Huns arrived and ransacked the treasure. So here’s a challenge cache in the same place to celebrate Plundering the Castle and all our other “most favourite” caches.

Access to Castle Rock is relatively easy now – a track between the Firebreak 4WD track and Ben Rudds leads right past it. Mind you, the track is overgrown and it's also easy to lose it. Careful clambering along a ledge on the exposed side of the Castle is needed to reach the cache hide in the middle of the rock stack. This ledge is couple of metres off the ground and should not be attempted when damp – hence the terrain rating. You need to find a rusty mint tin with damp logbook and no pen. Please ensure you leave it completely hidden under rocks.

The 50% Favourited Challenge: Find 20 caches, each with ≥ 50% Favourite Points at the time you submit your Challenge qualifying list, before you find the Challenge cache.

There are about 40 qualifying caches within 100 km of Dunedin, so you only have to find half of them. And there are sure to be some great memories as you put your qualifying list together!

§§§ Post a list of your 20 qualifying cache finds including these details for each cache:
• Cache Name
• Link to cache or GC code
• Date you found it
• Total # finds at date of posting
• # FP at date of posting
• % FP at date of posting

• Find the %FP for a cache by clicking on the grey "Favourites" button below the cache title. You will see the % Favourites/Premium Logs displayed. This is the "Favourite Points Percentage" to use in your qualifying list.

• This BOOKMARK should be helpful Some caches with ≥ 40% FP. Caches you have found will be highlighted. But check each one- not all the caches listed qualify for this challenge.

• Project Geocaching website (project-gc.com visit link) includes a list of FP%. Details HERE:visit link

• Another way to identify qualifying caches you have found is through your Public Profile. Click the "Your Profile" tab, then click "Your Public Profile" (just above your Finds/Hides totals). Then click the "Geocaches" tab, choose "All Geocache Finds" and click on the blue rosette icon. This will list your finds by number of Favourite Points. Work down the list, clicking each blue square with #FP to see the %FP.

• Remember that only paying customers of the Groundspeak Ltd listing business can give favourite points, so simply calculating #FP/Total #Finds may not be accurate.

§§§ If there are any issues, the CO will contact you for clarification or resubmission of your qualifying list.

§§§ Timing could be crucial... The percentage of Favourite Points will change each time another PM logs a find. Also, cachers can remove or add FPs at any time. Each cache on your list must have 50% Favourite Points AT THE TIME YOU POST YOUR QUALIFYING LIST ON THE CACHE PAGE.

§§§ You qualify for the Challenge as soon as you have posted a correct qualifying list (it will be checked asap). You can find the final Challenge cache then or anytime afterwards (years, even).
Changes to the % FPs of listed caches after your list is posted will not affect your qualification.

§§§ A cache must have at least 5 "Premium Member" finds to be eligible for this challenge (a nod to statistical correctness - if the limit was 10 PM finds, only about 18 active and 2 archived local caches would qualify).

§§§ All your finds can count, anywhere in the world, including now-archived caches.

§§§ Any Favourite Points you have given to qualifying caches are included in the FP%.

A huge Thank you to the hiders of these top caches
